🏭 Zekai Challenge · Manufacturing & Industry 4.0 Edition

From zero to AI master.
30 days. 5 minutes a day.

Eighty-four percent of manufacturers already get measurable value from AI. Only about one in five use cases ever scales past the line it was proven on. One 5-minute drill a day on the parts that survive contact with a shop floor, with the rule that stops a model inventing a specification.

The Value

0%

of manufacturers already get measurable value from AI.

This is not a technology that fails to work. Most manufacturers surveyed had already proven it in live operations, with reported improvement potential of around 20 percent across core operational KPIs.

The Bottleneck

0%

of use cases ever scale. Proving it works is the easy part.

Only around one in five use cases has been scaled consistently across sites or enterprise-wide. Almost every plant can make it work once. Very few make it work everywhere, and that gap is execution, not algorithms.

The Starting Line

0%

of US manufacturers reported using AI in any business function.

Up from 1.8% in September 2023. Real growth, and it still means 87% have yet to integrate it at all. Being early is an advantage only if you are early with a verification habit.

The plan is simple.

No course platform. No 6-hour videos. A daily drill you run in any AI assistant — built around your line, your logs and your own documents, and around the rule that a model never sources a specification.

Finish all 30 drills, pass a short final check, and claim your Zekai Challenge Certificate — ready for your LinkedIn profile.

Your 30 days. Every one of them, mapped.

Four weeks, four escalations: foundations → the paperwork → the plant → making it stick. Day 1 is open right now — try it. The rest unlock one per day after you sign the challenge, because mastery is built on daily reps, not binge-reading.

Day 30 has a trophy.

Finish the challenge and earn the Zekai Certificate of Completion — proof you didn’t just read about AI, you practised it for a month. Type your name. Go on.

Certificate of completion of an educational challenge — not a professional certification and not issued by any industry body. But it looks good on LinkedIn.

Questions before you start

Is this really free?
Yes. Zekai is an independent AI tools directory — the challenge is how we introduce people to the tools we test. Some tool pages contain affiliate links; the challenge itself costs nothing and requires no purchase.
Will this teach me to automate my line?
No, and that is deliberate. Putting AI inside a machine safety function is a regulated design decision, not a productivity experiment, and day 20 covers exactly where that line sits. This challenge is about the other ninety percent of your week: the handovers, downtime logs, work instructions, supplier emails, 8D reports and training material that quietly eat your time and never appear on a capital plan.
What is the rule the challenge keeps talking about?
The spec rule, installed on day 6. A language model will give you a torque value, a tolerance, a cure temperature or a material grade in a confident, well-formatted sentence, and it will look exactly like the real one. It is not a source. Every number that governs how a part is made, inspected or released comes from a controlled drawing, standard or customer document — the model can help you find it, explain it or reformat it, never be it.
Is it safe to use AI on machine safety functions?
That is a different activity with a different legal weight. Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery replaces Directive 2006/42/EC and applies from 20 January 2027, and for the first time machinery legislation explicitly addresses autonomous mobile machinery, connected equipment, and artificial intelligence where modules using learning techniques ensure safety functions. Day 20 explains the boundary. Nothing here is legal advice — confirm what applies to your product, your role and your market.
Our data is a mess. Is it too early for us?
Probably not for the drills in this challenge, which need a shift note and a downtime log rather than a data lake. It may well be too early for a predictive maintenance platform, and day 16 gives you the questions that tell you which. Deloitte found implementation cost the most cited barrier at 43%, ahead of a lack of technical expertise and resistance to change at 35% each, and most of that cost is the data foundation nobody scoped.
Why can’t I see all 30 drills at once?
Because binge-reading builds nothing. The challenge unlocks one drill per day from the day you sign — the way any skill gets built: daily reps. Day 1 is open right now so you can try it before committing.
Do I need any AI experience?
Zero. Day 1 assumes you have never written a deliberate prompt. By day 14 you will have written your own list of the things you will never accept from a model without a traceable source.
What if I miss a day?
Life happens, and so does an unplanned stop. The challenge is sequential, not strict-daily. Pick up where you left off; the certificate cares that you finish all 30, not that you were perfect.
I work in a different profession. Is there a challenge for that?
This is the Manufacturing & Industry 4.0 Edition. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, farmers, video editors and many more are already running theirs, with more coming. Sign up and we’ll tell you when yours goes live.
