📋 Zekai Challenge · Project Management Edition

From zero to AI master.
30 days. 5 minutes a day.

Anyone can produce a plan in seconds now. Only you can say whether the work is actually getting done. One 5-minute drill a day on real delivery, built around the difference between measured progress and the feeling of it.

The Perception Gap

0%

slower on real tasks — while believing they were 20% faster.

In a randomised trial, sixteen experienced open-source developers took about 19% longer to finish real work when allowed to use AI tools. Afterwards they estimated the tools had sped them up by about 20%. Felt speed and measured speed pointed in opposite directions.

The Downstream Tax

0%

of workers received AI-generated work that looked finished and was not.

Work that passes a glance and fails on use does not save time — it moves the time onto whoever receives it. For a project manager that is the difference between a status report and a surprise.

The Cleanup

0min

spent sorting out each piece of it, on average.

Just under two hours per incident, paid by someone who did not create the problem and usually does not report it. It never appears on a plan, which is exactly why it has to appear on your definition of done.

Same survey. Day 7 turns done into a checklist; day 23 checks whether your metrics can see this at all.

The plan is simple.

No course platform. No 6-hour videos. A daily drill you run in any AI assistant — built around your own backlog, your own stakeholders and your own deadline, and around the principle that a plan changes on evidence rather than on impression.

Your 30 days. Every one of them, mapped.

Four weeks, four escalations: foundations → the delivery → the people → the system. Day 1 is open right now — try it. The rest unlock one per day after you sign the challenge, because mastery is built on daily reps, not binge-reading.

Day 30 has a trophy.

Finish the challenge and earn the Zekai Certificate of Completion — proof you didn’t just read about AI, you practised it for a month. Type your name. Go on.

Certificate of completion of an educational challenge — not a professional certification and not issued by any industry body. But it looks good on LinkedIn.

Questions before you start

Is this really free?
Yes. Zekai is an independent AI tools directory — the challenge is how we introduce people to the tools we test. Some tool pages contain affiliate links; the challenge itself costs nothing and requires no purchase.
Will this replace project managers?
It will happily replace the paperwork, and that is most of what people picture when they picture the job. What it cannot do is the part that actually delivers: deciding what is true about progress, telling a sponsor something they do not want to hear, choosing which of three plans to defend, and holding a definition of done when everyone is behind. Those are accountability tasks, and accountability does not delegate. What changes is how much of your week goes on producing documents nobody reads.
What is the evidence rule?
Installed on day 6, and every other drill in the month is an application of it. You never change a plan, an estimate or a commitment because of a feeling of speed — only on measured throughput. And you never let a document that reads well pass as work that got done. Both halves have evidence behind them: a randomised trial found experienced developers were about 19% slower with AI tools while estimating they were about 20% faster, and a survey of 1,150 US workers found 41% had received AI-generated work that looked finished and was not, costing close to two hours each time to sort out.
Does this assume Scrum, or Kanban, or something else?
None of them. The drills use words most teams share — backlog, estimate, iteration, retrospective, done — and work whether you run sprints, a kanban board, stage gates or nothing formal at all. Where a drill assumes a rhythm, it is the rhythm of any project: a start, a middle where the truth is cheapest, a delivery and a close. If you run a traditional plan-driven programme, day 14 becomes a checkpoint read rather than a mid-sprint one, and everything else lands unchanged.
My team is using AI and I cannot tell whether it is helping. What do I do?
Stop asking people how it feels, because that is the one signal known to point the wrong way. Days 6, 14 and 23 build the alternative: pick a measure tied to something outside the team — did it ship, did it work, is anyone using it — read it over a window long enough to mean something, and check what is piling up in review rather than what is being started. If output is rising and the review queue is growing, you are producing more and finishing less, and that is a finding you can act on.
Why can’t I see all 30 drills at once?
Because binge-reading builds nothing. The challenge unlocks one drill per day from the day you sign — the way any skill gets built: daily reps. Day 1 is open right now so you can try it before committing.
Do I need any AI experience?
Zero. Day 1 assumes you have never written a deliberate prompt. By day 6 you will have a written evidence rule you can hold your own project to.
What if I miss a day?
Life happens, and so does an unplanned stop. The challenge is sequential, not strict-daily. Pick up where you left off; the certificate cares that you finish all 30, not that you were perfect.
I work in a different profession. Is there a challenge for that?
Every edition is built the same way, for a different desk — you can see all of them on the challenge hub, and new professions are added regularly. If yours is not there yet, sign up and we’ll tell you the day it launches.
