Lesson 2: The same idea has many voices.
Register is how formal, how technical, and how much prior knowledge you assume. Left alone, a model writes in a bland middle register. Naming your audience is what moves the dial.
Why this matters: A seminar answer, a lab report and a message to a classmate can carry identical content in three completely different voices. Most writing marks are lost by using the wrong one. Practise moving the dial on purpose and you stop sounding like a first draft.
