📖 Today’s lesson
Lesson 13: Make it cross the line, once, so you never do.
You will not truly understand why candidate screening is regulated until you watch a model do it and inspect the reasoning. So today you will make it happen deliberately, with fictional candidates and nothing at stake.
Why this matters: A model asked to rank people will always produce a ranking. It will sound confident and reasoned, and it will quietly weight things like career gaps, university prestige, name familiarity and phrasing style — proxies for age, class, national origin and disability. This is exactly the behaviour NYC Local Law 144 exists to audit. Seeing it once is what makes the rule stick.
