WeftCut — AI for Video Editing & Production

If you spend hours performing repetitive video editing tasks like cleaning silences, aligning cuts, and styling captions, WeftCut provides an interesting alternative by bringing your AI agent directly onto your video timeline. Because it functions as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, you can connect your existing agent—such as Claude Desktop or Cursor—using a simple snippet, letting the agent execute actions like trimming takes, generating scene descriptions, and handling complex edits using plain text instructions. Unlike cloud-based video editors that restrict your files or force you into subscription lock-in, WeftCut runs locally on your desktop as an open-source MIT application, ensuring your footage and editing projects stay on your machine. Beyond standard AI commands, it introduces 'Motifs', letting your agent write code for animated titles, 2D drawings, and 3D scenes that you can preview and insert directly into your video timeline. At the same time, it does not lock you out if you want to work manually. It operates as a fully functional standalone editor equipped with Bézier curves, chroma keying, subtitle imports, and professional exports including ProRes and 10-bit AV1. However, because WeftCut bundles no AI models of its own, you must bring and configure your own AI client and local or cloud transcription/vision engines to get started.
